The Present is Your Gift for Changing the Future.

The Present is Your Gift for Changing the Future.

Is there anything about your life that you would change if you could? Most of my coaching clients express regret or remorse over mistakes they’ve made in the past. We’ve all made them. They’re necessary in order for us to grow and gain experience. Some of us carry those regrets with us throughout our entire lives but the good news is, there is a better way.

While we can’t undo our past, we can learn from it. When you make a mistake ask yourself two questions, “What’s great about this?” and, “How can I use this?” These two questions can alter the course of your life and prevent you from being depressed about missteps in your past.

In high school, I spent five years hanging out with my friends, both in my class and in the classes ahead of and behind mine. I remember seeing Ginger Wolfe, who was in my younger brother’s class, five grades behind me. We would pass each other in the hallways as we went to different classes, but during those entire five years that we went to school together, I can’t remember ever once speaking with her. Now, 49 years later, Ginger lives in Salt Lake City, Utah and I live in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. And more importantly, we have become great friends.

Ginger runs her own embroidery business and has many questions you’d expect an entrepreneur to have. Since she doesn’t live close enough to attend my seminars, I frequently call her before a seminar and ask if I can practice running through my seminar stories with her. It makes my presentations much more impactful, having had someone critique them and ask specific questions so I can work out the bugs. In addition, Ginger has access to my seminar content which she can apply to her own business. Her friendship has become one of the most rewarding of my life because, through her, I’ve had a second chance to correct a previous missed opportunity of having such a cherished friend.

Reclaiming your destiny means that you don’t sit back and just accept things the way they are; but rather take steps to make them the way you want them to be. Don’t accept what you don’t like. Claim your future and carve out the path to the life you really want.

Your destiny is going to be written. Just decide who you want holding the pen.
