Living To Tell.

Encourager-In-Chief: June 3rd, 2020

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road.” – Helen Keller

This blog is written by my guest, Michelle Patterson, CEO of Credit Lab. Michelle will be a part of my special guest panel for the Proven Success Skills for Business Women: Back from the Brink Forum on June 18, 2020.

I was living the “good life.” I was happily married, owned a thriving business, and had a great support system of family and friends – everything I had prayed and worked for in my younger days.

Suddenly, that all changed.I found myself divorced and fighting for the survival of the business I worked so hard to build from the ground up. Everything snowballed from there. I entered a dark period in my life filled with depression that made me withdraw from the very network that would have been able to help me the most. I stopped paying attention to self-care, let alone pampering myself, so things continued to get worse for me.

I had to give up my downtown office space and work from home. I created even more distance between myself and the outside world. I was living in a sad, lonely world that I had created to isolate myself and numb my pain. I went from a happy, fulfilling life to one full of darkness and despair.

One day, as I was leaving the bank parking lot, something inside of me sparked the change that I so desperately needed. Just as quickly as I had decided to let life defeat me, I decided that it was time to get back to who I am truly meant to be. In that moment, I realized that I knew better, so it was time to do better.

From that moment on, I broke away from my self-imposed punishment and renewed my passion for my business, personal relationships, and other life goals. I found myself again that day. Since then, I have been back on my “A Game”– my business is reaching new heights and my support system is as strong as ever. My passion is restored and my future is bright. I am officially back from the brink!
