4 Easy Ways to Silence Stress

Encourager-In-Chief: January 10th, 2018

Don’t be fighting yourself when you should be focused on your business.

In my first role as a leader, I was still in my early 20s. The three people on my team were considerably older than me. They used to talk about stress and I had no idea what they meant. Well, that was a long time ago and now I understand it much better.

As a business owner, you may as well receive a great big box of stress when you incorporate your business. You realize that everything is riding on your shoulders and you may have a lot at risk. Stress will probably be your constant companion for quite a while. But have no fear! Here are four easy ways to silence stress.

First, write out a daily to-do list for the most important tasks you need to complete tomorrow. By doing this, you’ll get a better night’s sleep tonight because you won’t be thinking about all the tasks requiring your attention in the morning.

Second, limit your attention to only the six most important tasks on the list. You’re never going to get everything done in one day so stop stressing yourself out. Tell the truth: If you got your six most important tasks done tomorrow wouldn’t you feel great about that?

Third, put things in perspective. Allow a little time to focus on helping someone who is going through a much worse situation than you. Ask if you can sit in a dementia ward and talk to someone who doesn’t get many visitors. Or sit with somebody who is receiving a chemotherapy and listen to him or her. I guarantee when you’re done, you won’t be thinking about how bad you have it anymore.

Finally, count your blessings, not your problems. Pray for peace and the strength to play the hand you been dealt. God never gives you more than you can handle. If you need help, ask for help. It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of sanity when you recognize it’s time to allow someone else to help lighten your load. Call a friend, a priest, a mentor, or a coach. It’s your choice, but you don’t have to go through this by yourself.

Faith is the antidote for fear.
